In a statement released on July 11, 2025, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela vehemently condemned the latest U.S. sanctions imposed on the legitimate President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. The Venezuelan government characterized the measures, announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as a new display of “imperial arrogance, hatred, and obsession” against the Cuban people and their revolutionary leadership.
Venezuela’s official communiqué denounces the U.S. action as an intolerable affront to international law, emphasizing that no U.S. official has the authority to sanction the head of state of a sovereign nation. According to the statement, this move represents not only a violation of fundamental principles of peaceful coexistence among nations, but also a profound insult to the free peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Venezuelan government asserts that the intent to punish President Díaz-Canel is rooted in a deep-seated contempt for the dignity and resilience of Cuba, a nation that has withstood decades of U.S. hostility and economic warfare.
The Venezuelan government’s statement reads: The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its strongest and categorical rejection of the infamous statement by the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, who, in a new display of hatred, sick obsession, and imperial arrogance, seeks to sanction the legitimate President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
It is an intolerable affront to International Law for a U.S. government official to claim the authority to sanction the Head of State of a sovereign country. The attempt to punish President Díaz-Canel is not only a violation of the fundamental principles of coexistence among nations, but also an expression of deep contempt for the free peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The U.S. Secretary of State is nothing more than a spokesperson for resentment and failure. Blinded by hatred, intimidated by the invincible dignity of Cuba, he has built his political career on the desire to destroy revolutions that he neither understands nor will ever be able to defeat. His sick obsession against Cuba is doomed to the same fate as all imperial attempts against our America: absolute failure.
The imposition of new coercive measures is nothing more than acts of financial piracy disguised as false morality. While the Cuban people resist with heroic dignity, it is the United States government that is directly responsible for the suffering caused by the criminal and illegal blockade, intensified with cowardice by figures like Rubio.
Venezuela reiterates its absolute and unwavering support for the people, the Government of the Republic of Cuba, and its President, and denounces before the international community the policy of systematic aggression promoted by the current U.S. Secretary of State, whose only agenda is to prolong the Monroe Doctrine under new disguises.
